Hello, Our Name is Brewt’s

Started in an apartment kitchen now we’re here. Literally.

The story of Brewt’s starts in an apartment kitchen in the middle of Los Angeles. How does a former Muay Thai fighter start a beverage mixer company you ask? How much time do you have?

Wasn’t joking about being a Muay Thai (traditional Thai style of kickboxing) fighter. Fighting took me all over the world and I ended up moving to Thailand. Eventually, I moved back to LA and continued fighting there.

In LA, brunch is a given. Weekends were dedicated to time with good people, delicious food, and even better cocktails. On my path of expert level brunching, I came to a major realization: the Bloody Mary mixers were a problem. The brunch staple that could be found everywhere from local eateries to lounging by a pool, were filled with sugar, sodium, and loads of preservatives. As a lifelong proponent of nutrition, I knew the affect ingredients like that can have on one’s body. Especially when it came to my life as a fighter where I had to maintain certain weights, I was keenly aware that these ingredients were not a sustainable option. So, I set out to solve the problem. Little did I know wanting to rid one of my favorite drinks of unnecessary fillers would launch a full fledged business.

Now for the apartment kitchen we started with. I made the mix by experimenting with fresh ingredients to create a signature taste unlike anything else on the market: real vegetables, fresh citrus, and our very own pickled jalapeno brine. I started bringing my inaugural mixer to small events and friends houses and it quickly became a requested item. Due to the popularity among people who had tried it, I even started bottling it and bringing the fun to local farmer’s markets.

Word about the mixer traveled and we were asked to attend the DeVos Food and Wine Show in my hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Admittedly, I had no idea what I was getting in to, but was confident about the product so I said yes. I rallied a group of happy volunteers at my parent’s house and hand filled a pallet of bottles complete with labels we printed off a computer. The leap of faith paid off and we completely sold out at the show. I signed with a state wide distributor 24 days later.

The next two years I split my time between LA and Grand Rapids as the vision for Brewt’s took form. Each year brought important steps that would change the face of the business:

2018

  • I moved back to Michigan permanently and had the good fortune of finding a small batch co-packer which allowed us to skip the incubator/commercial kitchen step.

  • Added our first additional product Bloody Caesar!

2019

  • We scaled the business and moved into our own co-packing and processing facility.

  • Launched our first non beverage option with our hot sauces. They’re authentic recipes from Jojutla, Morelos, Mexico that have been passed down for generations. We acquired them from a family friend, Consuelo. We are honored to bring her family’s recipes to people across the country.

2020

  • We added a ghost kitchen to our facility!

2021

  • Signed on as the official Bloody Mary of the West Michigan Whitecaps. We love having this connection to our hometown.

  • Opened our co-packing facility to other businesses which felt like a full circle moment for us.

2022

  • We added margaritas to the party! We started with a classic marg followed by Jalapeno.

  • This year marked our first limited edition product: Lavender Margarita. Yum.

  • Started distribution of Brewt’s statewide in Wisconsin. Not all are statewide, but we can be found in 27 states!

There’s been so many other milestones to be proud of and thankful for along the way. We can’t thank you enough for being along on the journey with us. Your support, orders, shares, and beyond mean the world. As a proudly woman owned business, we truly love serving up quality goods for life’s party.

Stay tuned, we are just getting started!

Cheers,
Emily
