Hot Sauce 101
All of the info you need to know about our hot sauces…
We have been sharing recipes that incorporate our hot sauces, so we wanted to share a bit of background about the entire product line. Buckle up folks, it’s time for a little hot sauce 101...
The hot sauces have a beautiful history. They are all authentic recipes from Jojutla, Morelos, Mexico. We worked with a family friend, Consuela, to develop her recipe for each sauce. These recipes have been passed down for generations and used by a long line of her family. We are deeply honored that she chose to share these treasured sauces with us and was part of developing them exactly to her liking. We love being able to produce them with her in our test kitchen to ensure they’re up to her meaningful standard. She works with us every single week to make sure that the vision of the recipe that she made with her mom and with her children is represented.
To be able to share these recipes with other families (knowing their roots) is something we are so proud of. We went from generations of Consuela’s family in Mexico to tables all over the country.
Here’s a little breakdown of each of the sauces:
SERRANO
Serrano is the most mild of the sauce. It does increase in heat when the Serrano Peppers are very hot (depends on the season). People love this on anything so it’s been lovingly coined the “pour-it-on-everything” sauce.
HABANERO
Habanero sits in the middle of our sauces. Like the Serrano, the heat level depends on the crop of Habaneros. This sauce has a creamy, buttery texture with fruity fire making it the perfect hot sauce experience. They’re most popular on breakfast foods: eggs will never be the same.
ARBOL
Arbol is the spiciest of the three. It’s consistency is a bit thicker so it also serves as a great salsa. In terms of taste, it has a bolder, smokey flavor…it’s for the brave ones. Because of the heat and consistency, it’s great on dinner foods including BBQ and any kind of meat.
We’re so honored that Conseula allows us to make her sauces alongside of her. Head to our Shop to order them and let us know which one is your favorite!
Keep it hot,
Emily
